FIRST CASUALTY - WAR, TRUTH & THE MEDIA TODAY Date: Saturday 17th November 2007 Time: 2.00 pm - 6.30 pm Venue: London School of Economics & Political Science, Houghton St, Holborn, London, WC2A 2AE Contributors include: Moazzam Begg (Former Guantanamo Bay Inmate), Lindsey German (Convenor, Stop the War Coalition), Amir Amirani (Iranian Documentary Maker), Andrew Gilligan (Sacked by the BBC), Peter Wilby (Columnist at Media Guardian, Former Editor of the Independent on Sunday), Victoria Brittain (Former Foreign Affairs Editor, The Guardian), Sean Langan (Producer of BBC Documentaries on Iraq and Afghanistan), Phillip Knightley (Author of the First Casualty), Michelle Stanistreet (President, NUJ), Catherine Mayer (Correspondent for Time Magazine and Former President of Foreign Press Association, 2003-2005), Piers Robinson (University of Manchester, Author of Groundbreaking Research on War Coverage), Sami Ramadani (Iraqi Democrat Against Occupation), and others. The largest gathering for many years of workers inside the media to discuss effective campaigning against war and media lies. It comes at a key juncture as the US gears up for war against Iran and British media bosses are on the back foot over fakery and deception. The conference will bring outstanding journalists who have put their careers on the line for the truth together with leading figures in the anti-war movement to debate and discuss. All welcome.
