Salaam Alaykum

With the ever increasing difficulties facing the Muslim community in the British society, its time to stand up and be counted. The Al-Khoei Foundation has designed a course to equip today's Muslims with the necessary information and the right tools to make sure that their voice is no longer hidden, rather at the forefront. 

 

The Programme will consist of a presentation by the respective speakers, followed by a Discussion.

Session One:

 

Media: The ever growing forceby Roger Hardy
- How to Contact the media
- How to make your voice heard
- What makes a News Story
- What does the Media expect from Muslims
- How can we work with the Media

 

Mr. Roger Hardy has been the BBC?s Islamic Affairs and Middle East Analyst for many years now, and has completed a number of important series? analysing the relationship between Islam and the West. ?Islam and Modernity?, ?Jihad and the Saudi Petrodollar?, as well as ?Europe?s Angry Young Muslims?, are a number of the accomplished series? that Mr. Hardy has completed with the BBC.

 Session Two:

 

House of Lords: The Law Makers by Lord Eric Avebury
- What is the role of both Houses of Parliament
- How does the Parliament work and the difference between the two Houses
- How can we lobby as a community and individually to affect new laws
- How new laws are introduced

 

Lord Eric Avebury is a serving member of the House of Lords. He has served as an MP and as a part of the Welsh Guards, and has been active in promoting Human Rights around the world, including in Indonesian and the Kurdistan region.

 Session Three:

 

House of Commons: Muslims in the UK by Rt Hons Mike O?Brien MP

- Islamophobia.

- Why Muslim people should make their voices heard in the democratic process.

- Terrorism and civil liberties.

 

Rt Hons Mike O?Brien MP is a Labour MP for North Warwickshire. He is a Minister of State for the department of Work and Pensions, and has previously worked as a Foreign Office Minister and a Minister of State for energy, e-commerce and competitiveness.

Session Four:

 

Engagement: Stand up and be counted by Sayed Yousif Al-Khoei
- Living in the UK
- Building up a relationship with the State
- How to engage the State
- Current projects and their future
- The role of the youth to make a difference.

 

Sayed Yousif Al-Khoei is a director at the Al-Khoei Foundation.. He is a trustee of the Forum Against Islamophobia and Racism, a founding member of the National Council of the Welfare of Muslim Prisoners, as well as a member of the Institute of International Affairs.
