Newsletter August 2006 ???√?√? Rajab 1427

As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah

Bismillahi rahmaani raheem

Welcome to this month???√?√?s newsletter, and as we eagerly prepare for the Holy month of Ramadhan, we pray to The Almighty to grant us the opportunity to help the orphans, feed the hungry and spread the message of peace, unity and love. The laws of the universe and nature work such that the more freely we give, the more we will have. Indeed an old Chinese proverb states if you want happiness for a lifetime, help someone else.

Ramadhan Iftaar Relief:

???         ????15,000.00 has been transferred to IRAC in Iraq, to provide iftaar for deserving sadaat and non sadaat families. In Iran, vulnerable refugee families from Iraq and Afghanistan, and those with orphans are also being assisted during the upcoming holy month. We have transferred ????6,000.00 so far. 400 such families in Qum and Ahwaz are being provided with basic imperishable foods such as rice, oil and lentils at a cost of ????14.00 per family. This will allow them to buy fresh food and meats with any money they save. In addition, the Trust is finalizing assistance for Iftaar to widows and orphans in Lebanon and India. Please continue to give generously so we can help more families, for our Holy Prophet (PBUH) has said:

???√?√≤And whoever helps the believers in this month; Allah will forgive him and make him free from the fire.???√?√?

Iran:

???         Feeding Program, Sultaniyeh Camp: The beneficiaries of this project are Alhamdulillah doing extremely well, and one of the residents recently underwent a cornea transplant to restore his sight, funded by our Medical Referral Program.

???         Medical Referral Program: As the number of Iraqi and Afghani refugee families increase in Iran, so do their medical requirements. Very little complicated treatment, if at all, is carried out in Iraq due to the lack of facilities and volatile situation. IRAC sees patients basically suffering with three main conditions; 1. Eye Diseases (cornea transplants, retinal detachments, cataracts); 2. Cancer (this is increasing due to the fallout from depleted uranium); and 3. Heart Disease (congenital heart disease in children, and coronary artery disease in adults). From October to July 2006, 708 patients have been treated. Please see our website for July???√?√?s MRP report.

Iraq:

???          Karbala Eye Clinic: The Karbala Eye Clinic was established to offer charitable treatment for eye disease to those who cannot afford treatment in commercial facilities. From January 2006 until now, 4,813 patients have received treatment at the clinic. 1,760 patients had their sight tested and received glasses either free of charge or at a nominal cost. A further 486 had treatment for eye disease including lid diseases, conjunctivitis and other conditions. Please see the website for the latest report.

???          Microfinance: The Trust has transferred further US $ 9,820.00 to IRAC in Iraq to assist micro finance projects and needy families in the marshlands of Basra. So far, 50 milking cows have been purchased and are feeding 617 people daily.

Lebanon:
???         80% of the people displaced in the recent conflict have now returned to their homes, to find widespread destruction. Now begins the slow task of rebuilding the infrastructure. Initial reports from Brother Hicham in Nabatieh city detail 500 families whose homes are either partially damaged or completely destroyed. In the 38 surrounding villages, the number is at least 10times higher especially around the Litani River. 25 cartons of gents, ladies and children???√?√?s clothes weighing 450 kilos are being sent to Lebanon with Syrian Airlines to help the victims. However, funds are urgently needed so please donate generously.

Palestine:
???         US$ 600.00 was transferred to a teacher in Palestine who had not received a salary for 5 months. He is looking after his sick father and brother, and desperately needed the assistance.

India:

???         Healthcare: ????6,625.00 was transferred to India this month to assist 5 medical cases. The treatments undertaken were for a patient suffering with tetralogy of fallots, hip replacement for an ankylosing spondylitis patient, double heart valve replacement, coronary artery bypass graft and medication for a renal transplant patient. Full details are available on the website.

???         Microfinance: Financial assistance was provided for a taxi driver, as he was unable to meet the payments on his car, which he uses to earn his livelihood and support his family. This was conditional on the beneficiary repaying INR 5,000 per month.

Africa:

???          Healthcare: The Trust recently sponsored 60 cataract procedures undertaken at the Kondoa eye camp, Dodoma, central Tanzania. Each operation cost ????40.00, and one of the patients was an 18year old boy who had never seen the world. It is estimated that there are 1700 cataract patients in the nine villages surrounding the town; this gives an idea how neglected the area is. A full report is posted on the website.
